Should This Matter?

As is so often the case, I once again crossed paths with an interesting article that has sparked a desire in me to write an article of my own. I highly recommend reading the article I came across as it is a quick and concise but very informative one! The article is “ADAMS: Why I Have To Debate ‘Christian’ Serial Killers” written by Mike S. Adams and posted on January 14, 2019 on “The Daily Wire” website. Needless to say the title is intriguing and certainly caught my eye. I immediately knew who the ‘Christian’ serials killers are that Adams is referring to: so-called ‘Christian’ abortion advocates.

I know! Any genuine Christian would say that those two concepts are not compatible. But in today’s depraved society filled with fake ‘Christians’ and pretend ‘church’, it is a reality. For too long we have remained silent. For too long we have hoped it would go away. For too long we have thought that it couldn’t really get that bad…oh but it has! As I read through the article, I could feel the same frustration and shock that Adams related as he spoke of his upcoming debate against a ‘Christian’ abortionist. We actually have to debate this? This is something Christians are struggling with?

But the fact is that I have met several self-proclaimed Christians who may not prefer abortion but are “ok” with it even suggesting that things may be better off with abortion and that God may even use it! In some cases, these are people that I know understand the Bible and have been taught solid Biblical doctrine all of their lives. In other cases, these people claim to read and love the Bible and Jesus.

So, while I feel that the fact I am compelled to comment on this subject is still a shocking situation to find myself in, it is absolutely necessary at this point. We can no longer ignore the problem and pretend it doesn’t exist. We sit in our air conditioned pews holding our fresh brewed coffee we just picked up from the church’s café as we wait for the concert to begin and then hear a short and sweet message about Jesus’ love and how we need to be good. We go home and continue our lives. Then we pat ourselves on the back for being good Christians. Meanwhile, millions are being killed for the sake of convenience. And not just being killed, but tortured to death, feeling every ounce of pain, so that a woman can have “reproductive rights”.

In his article, Adams did not hold back as he blamed the fact that the church has sunk so low on “cowardly local pastors and campus ministers who have allowed abortion to be normalized in Christian culture.” He also claims that the “moral vacuum in the church” is the result of “so-called Christian leaders ignoring the issue for so many years.” I must agree entirely! I now attend a home church taught by my husband who mentions the evil of abortion frequently but before that I don’t know if I even recall a time that abortion was ever mentioned in church.

Pro-life groups certainly exist and are doing their best to fight the evil of abortion but churches seem to be absent in the fight. Why? I think there are a couple of reasons. One: they hope that it goes away. Two: lazy and fearful leaders. Three: general apathy and selfishness in the Christian community. Four: false teachers who claim to be Christian but are not have entered into the church and are destroying it from within.

I could go on and on detailing each of the reasons I listed above, but I am not writing a book here! So, I want to address an argument in favor of abortion that I have heard before and that Adams also brings up in his article which is “abortion is mentioned nowhere in the Bible”. I am going to focus on this argument solely for the rest of this discourse because it is solvable – what does the the Bible say about abortion? We can actually look and see for ourselves.

The word ‘abortion’, of course, is not used in the Bible. So, we can’t just google ‘abortion’ and ‘Bible’ to get an easy answer! I guess this will take a little more in-depth study which is what God always wants from us anyway. Just because abortion isn’t mentioned in the Bible, doesn’t mean that the issue isn’t addressed. For example, Adams, in his article, mentioned that child pornography isn’t mentioned specifically but it is addressed in the overall context.

So, the next step is to move on to passages that refer to children in the womb. What do those passages say?

Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV)

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Psalm 139:13-14 (KJV)

13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

These passages in Jeremiah and Psalms are well known and often quoted. What these passages tells us is that a child in the womb (and even before) has a purpose given by God. God knows each child before they are born. He sees them as human and able to fulfill a purpose.

Genesis 25:22-25 (KJV)

22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord.

23 And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

This Genesis passage is also pointing out the purpose that God assigned to children before they were born. God had a plan for these children. The twins referred to here are Jacob and Esau.

Luke 1:36-44 King James Version (KJV)

41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

Here again, we see that children in the womb have a purpose! The children in the womb are used by God to prophecy of the Savior to come! The children here are John the Baptist and Jesus.

Exodus 21:22-25 (KJV)

22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Here in Exodus, we see that God considers killing a child in the womb as equivalent to MURDER. The person who commits this crime of killing an unborn child is also killed. Sure sounds like an abortionist would be killed here.

I think the Bible is actually very clear in its stance on life – the Bible is certainly pro-life. So, as a Christian, regardless of the circumstances or how the world views a child in the womb, I am pro-life!

There is one more passage to include on this topic. It is regarding child sacrifice. God viewed child sacrifice as the lowest of low. He viewed it as a sign of the most depraved society. He hates child sacrifice. We know this because He says so multiple times in the Bible. I have placed one passage in particular here but there are plenty others that say the exact same thing. In fact, I am going to write a separate discussion on the topic of how abortion is modern-day child sacrifice so that I can go into more detail because the similarities are just so stunning.

Ezekiel 23:37-39 (KJV)

37 That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.

38 Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

39 For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.

When Israel turned to idolatry, they always ultimately ended up participating the the worship of Molech, a god worshipped by the surrounding Canaanite people which involved child sacrifice. They would burn their first born children alive in the fire in order to secure financial prosperity, future children, or special needs. Even Israelite kings participated in this horrific practice! Please tell me how this deplorable action is any different than abortion! We may not sacrifice to Molech (or Chemosh), but we do sacrifice our children to “privacy” and “reproductive rights”. We do this in order to gain advantages such as better finances or preferable life circumstances. We are still doing the same exact activity as the Israelites. Our society actively participates in child sacrifice and not only is the church silent, but they are embracing it!

I picked this passage in Ezekiel in particular because it highlighted not only how much God hates child sacrifice, but how Israel would offer their children to Molech but then go into the temple and offer sacrifice to God. Now we can really see how low Israel had sunk in their depravity. The same thing is happening today!

How many of us will stand up against abortion? We should not remain silent but speak up! The Bible is strictly pro-life. Anyone who says otherwise simply is looking to excuse their lifestyle. Any true reader of the Bible can clearly see that the argument that the Bible doesn’t address abortion just doesn’t hold up. In fact, it is a lazy argument.
